"Sharing the Richness of Life"

Chiku Chiku Tong Tong, based in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand, is an ethical brand that aims to pass on the traditions of the Karen hill tribe and pursue a sustainable village life.

The Karen people lead a self-sufficient, handicraft-based lifestyle. 
However, as time goes by, traditional skills such as dyeing and weaving are being lost.

We want to pass on to the future the richness of life with the sounds of needlework "Chiku Chiku" and weaving "Tong Tong".
This is how we started our activities.

We hope that our efforts will continue even 100 years from now. So we make products using natural materials such as naturally dyed yarn and hand-woven cloth, as well as traditional handmade silver.

For example, each piece of clothes takes several weeks to three months to produce.

We deliver the products with a touch of the Karen people's way of life.
We hope that they will enrich the lives of those who purchase them.
By making people happy, our lives will become richer and more colorful.

「豊かな暮らしのお裾分け」

タイ北部チェンマイに拠点を置く"ちくちくトントン"は、山岳少数民族・カレンの伝統継承や、持続可能な村作りを目的としたエシカルブランドです。

カレン族の人々は、自給自足をベースとした手仕事のある暮らしを送っています。しかし時代とともに、染め・機織りといった伝統技術は失われつつあるのが現状です。

日常生活の中に針仕事の「ちくちく」、機織りの「トントン」といった音がある、豊かな営みを未来に受け継ぎたい。
そんな思いで私たちの活動は始まりました。

100年後も続けられるような取り組みをと、草木染め糸や手織り布などの自然素材、伝統のハンドメイドシルバーを用いた作品づくりをしています。

たとえば布製品は、1点につき数週間～3ヶ月ほどの長い時間をかけてできあがります。

手に取ってくださった方の日々がより豊かなものになるよう願いながら、カレン族の暮らしの息吹を作品に込めてお届けいたします。
また皆さんに喜んでいただくことで、私たちの暮らしも彩りを増していきます。

こうして「豊かな暮らしを皆さんとお裾分けしあう」ような気持ちで、日々取り組んでいます。

現在カレン民族のスタッフのほか、日本人サポートメンバーも活動を支えています。
